SEND Unit Provision ‘The Hub’

From 1st September 2023 Mawsley C.P School will be offering Kettering’s first primary SEN resourced unit provision, alongside the current mainstream education offer.

What is a resourced SEND provision?

Resourced Provisions are where places are reserved at a mainstream school for pupils with a specific type of SEN, who may access mainstream classes, but require a base and some specialist facilities within the school.

Mawsley C.P School SEND Provision will:

  • Offer much needed places to local SEND children

  • Initially offer 9 places, with places growing over the next three years reaching a capacity of 27 pupils in 2025/26

  • Have an allocated outdoor area

  • Be led by Mawsley School

The children allocated a place at our unit provision will all have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) where their prime areas of need are communication and interaction and/or cognition and learning.

Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can affect a child or young person’s ability to learn.

This can affect their:

  • behaviour or ability to socialise, for example they struggle to make friends

  • reading and writing, for example because they have dyslexia

  • ability to understand things

  • concentration levels, for example because they have ADHD

  • physical ability

Will children who attend the SEND provision access mainstream classes?

If we feel it is appropriate, to both needs of the child and the class that they may potentially attend, there may be some integration of children across both mainstream and unit provision.

Teachers within the unit provision and mainstream provision will work in partnership when these arrangements are in place.

My child has SEND and currently attends Mawsley C.P School, will their support be impacted? Will they be moved to the new provision?

Any children, with SEND, who currently attend Mawsley School (mainstream) will continue to do so, with appropriate support in place. Children who attend the provision will all have an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan). Children who are allocated a place are done so by a local authority panel in consultation with Miss Harris.

What school uniform are the children required have?

We encourage all children who attend ‘The Hub’ to attend wearing Mawsley school uniform as listed below. We understand there may be items where you would like adjustments, due to the needs of your child, and ask you to discuss this with the SENCO, Miss Andrea Cox, to agree what these might be.

Our school uniform can be purchased at Karl Sports. Karl Sports have a shop in Kettering where you can purchase the uniform or it can be ordered on online. Click here to link to our uniform page.
